“I thought Medicare was supposed to pay?” This is a typical response from non-paying individuals faced with a demand to pay, usually the result of an emotional decision. Obtaining a logical response (i.e., payment) requires correcting a person’s faulty beliefs before a decision is required. This session will discuss best practices for avoiding non-payment by explaining why and how to effectively reveal financial truths to the resident or responsible party. Best practices for collecting on non-paying accounts and securing Medicaid before the account becomes uncollectable will also be discussed.
